EPILEPSY
WITHOUT
MEMORY

‘I am glad to have recorded all my experiences on paper that is tangible and not merely to have let them fade away, lost in my memory, which is damaged.’

“I can find strength inside my brain, convinced I can still learn again to find myself completely sane.”

‘This morning I was very surprised to wake up because I had been convinced I had died last night. I must have woken up inside this strange state of fantasy, determined not to strain myself because I was scared of tearing my muscles into shreds, knowing that I had recently been attacked by a fit.

I am convinced that my brain and my muscles be linked with each other whenever I allow them to be.’

Gillian Shaw remembers nothing before her illness in 1982.
She lives with epilepsy and a severely damaged memory.

Her drawings and writings express her will to see through darkness and walk into a life where she is happy to live in the present.

Her book ‘Me MYSELF My Memories’ provides a valuable insight of learning to live with mental illness which can too easily be dismissed.

Her positive perspective makes inspiring reading alongside her artistic talents.
